YAMBIO, 25 February 2013 [Gurtong] – Yambio County Commissioner Kuzee
John Elia illustrated that the FARM project has been doing some work
in the county covering the Bangasu, Gangura and parts of Yambio town
payams.

Kuzee said that last year the project started to encounter some
problems with the authorities because of the use of fertilizers
introduced to the farmers.

He said that the Western Equatoria State soils are virgin and requires
no chemical fertilizers but organic manure to help in improving soil
nutrients.

The commissioner said that the application of fertilizers is not
necessary as the main challenge facing the farmers accessing markets
for their produce.

He urged the visiting team to look into the matter with the project
representative Bolingo Baya Walla promising that their main mission is
to look on how to improve on agricultural productivity in the county.

He said the team will carry out research to improve the performance by
farmers to enable them choose the agricultural system they think is
best for production in their various areas.
