Minister Meets Department Of Land And Survey Officials
Western Equatoria State Physical Infrastructure and Public Utilities Minister Clement Mbugoniwia held a meeting with the team from the Directorate of Land and Survey in order to iron out some problems with the surveyors. 16 March 2013 By Joseph Nashion YAMBIO, 14 March 2013 [Gurtong]- The issues tackled were on compensation of the people affected by roads during demarcation, the mandates of the surveyors and the zoning of Yambio town. During the meeting, it was realized that there is no clear mandate of surveyors because they tend to confuse themselves with the county authority on who is to allocate land. The minister advised the surveyors not to involve themselves in plot allocation until when the Land Management Bill is passed and that they should abide by the current practice. On the issue of compensation, the surveyors blamed the county authorities who delay to register land because they believe if all the demarcated land is registered; the affected people can be fixed in the empty spaces. The forum resolved that the Surveyors and the County Authority should write the list of the affected persons and organize meeting with traditional leader such that they can get some space to put the affected people. Concerning the zoning of Yambio town, the minister gave the mandate to the town planning committee to come up with a plan on how the town should be zoned in form of industrial, investment lands among others to make the town organized. Finally, the surveyors said they are lacking most of the tools for surveying which the minister advised them to write the request for the tools with the amount needed such that it can be passed to the Council of Ministers for deliberation.
