YAMBIO, 13 March 2013 [Gurtong]-The minister said that the criteria
was purely based on competency and they were not checking the
background where the child comes from but rather the marks each scored
is what the team sat and came up with the list of 50 girls.

He said the parents will be responsible for the transporting their
children to the school every term for the child to move from home to
school and back home, two they have to accept their daughters to join
the boarding school, and other school requirements beyond that the
government will cater for the rest while the child is at school and
then lastly they will commit to sign that they will protect the girl
without selling her out for early marriage.

The minister stressed that it’s an unfortunate in one of the counties
which had presented one best girl and being the only girl who passed
in the whole county is pregnant it was confirmed from a reliable
source so out of the ten counties Nagero County will miss out the
opportunity.

Pia encouraged all the parents to support all the girls who are
struggling with education adding that this also done to appreciate
parents who are struggling supporting their children to school because
by doing what the ministry has come up with the burden of paying the
child to school for four years is reduced.
