AWEIL, 19 March 2013 [Gurtong]-While addressing the journalists in his
office, Ceaser Atem Biajo outlined the several reasons why the
2012-2013 is going to different from the rest the intakes.

“This year’s academic intake is quite different from the previous
intakes for numerous reasons; one of the reasons is that one county
[Aweil West] has dominated the top 50 and if we say we choose students
according to the best performance then the rest of the counties may
miss the chance of 2013 intakes. Another reason is that the number of
students passed for 2012-2013 academic year is extremely higher than
that of last year or other years back,” Biajo said.

He said that since Aweil National Secondary School is the only
national school in the state, there is a need for transparent
allocations so that all six counties are fully represented.

“We are admitting 20 students from each of the six counties of the
state and the best 31 students who performed well within Aweil town so
it makes a total of 151 students compared to last year which was 200
students admitted for 2011-2012 academic year intakes,” he said.

He said that girls are given exception and preference in order to help
build their capacity so that girl-child education is promoted in all
the counties of the state.

“We have admitted 20 female students at Aweil National Secondary
School though their performances were not so high as such, this was
done in order to encourage and build motivation for the rest of the
upcoming girls to tighten their belts in competing with the boys in
kinds of school competitions be it writing and other physical games,”
he said.
