One Killed, Three Injured As Lorry Overturns Along The Juba-Kajokeji Road One person is reported to have died on the spot and three others wounded after a tipper lorry overturned along the Juba-Kajokeji road.
15 April 2013 By Waakhe Simon Wudu JUBA, 15 April 2013 [Gurtong] - The accident occurred yesterday at around 2pm when the lorry was ferrying beers and soft drinks from Juba to Kajokeji overturned between Kansuk and Lomeje. The lorry was reported to have slipped over a man identified as Charles Abate killing him instantly. Beden Elikana, Kajokeji County Inspector of Information told Gurtong that the driver was alleged to have driven under the influence of alcohol and over speeding was suspected to have been the cause of the accident. The Juba-Kajokeji road challenge has remained the wide public outcry by the people of Kajokeji and travellers on the way. This is the second accident along the road that involved death this year after a government vehicle was also carried away in Kor Jomus and killed three police officers. At least over 10 people are now reported to have perished along the road due to its poor conditions. In March, Kajokeji citizens voluntarily mobilized 320,000 South Sudan Pounds to be used in fixing two Irish crossings along the Juba-Kajokeji road. The Voluntary Service Committee (VOSCO) formed in December last year mobilized 120,000 SSP an equivalent of $30,000 US Dollars. The contributions included 51,909 SSP as cash and 68,470 SSP in pledges. The fundraising event came after efforts made by VOSCO based on challenges raised by citizens of Kajokeji and travellers along the road. VOSCO was then tasked to mobilize for resources for fixing Irish crossings on the two streams. Road connectivity has since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in 2005 remained one of the biggest challenges affecting Kajokeji County.
