YAMBIO, 19 April 2013 [Gurtong] - There have been a high number of
school dropouts from the area every year due to pregnancies in school
going children.

She further added that talking to girls is one way of directing them
to becoming role model in the community.

“It’s not necessary having things done practically, “she said.

Lona appealed to the girls to be disciplined pupils both to their
teachers and the parents adding that any girl who is disrespecting the
two parties is definitely bad mannered.

“In life when you are a girl and you lack discipline you know people
will be running away from you including your working place,” she said.

The deputy speaker called upon the teachers to continue teaching
despite the challenges like salary delay, little pay and also lack of
teachers’ guide.

In response to the deputy speaker, a primary six girl identified as
Bibiana Martin
appreciated the deputy speaker for taking the initiative to come and
talk to girls of Mundiri adding that it’s the first she is seeing a
female politician taking her time to
come and interact freely with the girls.

She said that gives courage and support to them so that they continue with their
education regardless of the conditions they are facing in school and
out the school.
