Western Equatoria Education Minister accepted that St Mary Primary
School reopened on Monday in Yambio after he ordered its closure
following a pupils’ strike on Wednesday.

A delegation from St Mary’s Parents and Teachers Association or PTA
visited Minister Pia Philip Michael and the Acting Director General
for Education Hakim Dabi to request the re-opening of the school,
Radio Anisa reported.

Mr Pia said State Governor Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro in several
occasions insisted that strikes were not allowed in any institution in
the state.

The Minister warned that any school that goes on strike is
automatically closed and the instigators will face prison.

PTA member Mbembe Paisayo told the Minister that association condemned
the incident.

He admitted that the procedures taken by the administration to dismiss
the teacher were not regular and blamed the teacher for reacting
immaturely.

Mr Paisayo said the ring leader of the strike should be punished
administratively.

On Wednesday, a teacher instigated the pupils to go on strike after
receiving his job termination letter from the diocesan education head
office for improper behaviour with female pupils.
