MALAKAL, 23 April 2013 [Gurtong] - John Ibo Munto said men are
abandoning the heavy responsibilities at home to women.

“Nowadays it is only women who are the sole winner of bread and upon
them are other responsibilities. Women are working hard at home to
teach children and find some work that would end them money for
feeding,” Ibo said.

“I know very well in South Sudanese cultures, women are the ones
suffering cooking food and men sit only on chairs watching them
working,” he added.

He urged men to be serious in taking care of their children.

“Men have become very lazy, they are only found at dominos places,
playing cards or sitting around tea places from the sun rise to the
sun set without doing any productive job that will help their
children. This is not good,” he said.

“We are men because we have household tasks and should have the
capability. We should have homes and take care of our children. We
should attend to our children so that they should dream to become
responsible like their fathers. But you cannot produce children and
leave them in desperate situation,” Ibo added.

He said the freedom South Sudanese struggled for was not to refuse
work and claim that one is free.

“We paid our blood for the freedom of South Sudan until we became
independent country. We are independent politically but that does not
mean that we should ignore any kind of work and stay unproductive,” he
stated.

He said most of the children in South Sudan lack parental care and
they end up frustrated or lose hope in life.

Why should we produce children if we know that we cannot take care
of?” he asked.

Ibo asked South Sudanese to stop blaming everything on the government
even the care for children and wives at home.
