JUBA, 24 April 2013 [Gurtong] - “Your Excellency the President, since
our esteemed Judiciary is denouncing the supervision role of the
Legislature over its financial operations, I here call up on your kind
timely intervention so that our people and the international community
at large don’t view our judiciary as unwilling to abide with widely
established Rule of Law and norms of good governance,” Igga told
President Salva Kiir yesterday before parliamentarians, the executive,
Judiciary, diplomatic corps and activists during the reopening of the
parliament yesterday in Juba.

In the last sitting the Judiciary has explained in bold to the
parliament refusing summons by the National House on several issues
including matters in the audit reports of the Auditor General, saying
it is an independent institution of the government that is not
questionable by any government institution.

However, the explanation of the Judiciary violates powers of the South
Sudan Transitional Constitution which gives the parliament the powers
to summon and question any government official or institution over any
issue it has realized is of concern.
