RUMBEK, 24 April 2013 (Gurtong) - In April, the Lakes State Youth
Union (LASYU) passed a vote of no confidence on their chairman Apuk
Deng Reech for undermining the executive council and working
independently without informing members on the activities related to
union.

About 18 members of the Lakes State Youth Union Council voted against
their chairman and in a letter signed by Speaker Malith Ahol Chaak,
the Youth Union Council alleged that Apuk had undermined the executive
council and is working independently without informing members on the
activities related to LASYU.

Apuk was elected in July with 22 votes representing a 38.6 percent in
the hotly contested 2012 elections with four candidates contesting for
the chairmanship.

Speaking to press at the time, Apuk denounced the letter signed by his
Speaker Malith terming it as a criminal act which will be dealt with
by the court.

Apuk said that the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport which is in
charge of the Youth Union is being notified and serious measures will
be taken against those who cook fake documents.

“This document was done by criminals. That document is fake and those
boys who wrote this letter are criminals and serious measure will be
taken against them. The ministry is being notify and immediately the
will be capture and they will appear before court,” said Apuk during
the impeachment.

On Tuesday, Apuk wrote a letter to the ministry of Culture, Youth and
Sport which said; “with these remarks, the executive and myself call
upon all youth, and the entire public to Lakes state to refer to Lakes
state youth union constitution the aforementioned articles quoted in
order to prove who is at the right or wrong side between inquisitive
councillors in disseminating fake document and patient executives, who
responded lately. Also not all council members are aware of the
impeachment but only clique of out councillors.”
