BOR, 29 April 2013 [Gurtong] – The Jonglei Red Cross Director, David
Gai Deer has said that they give assistance to vulnerable families in
Bor town after their assessment targeted seven areas of Bor town.

Gai said that distribution started on Saturday and was targeting 1,000
households but the assessments in seven areas identified 900
households which they have given assistance.

He said that they are giving emergency shelter, including kitchen set,
plastic sheet, a jerry can, washing soap, blanket and mosquito nets.

He said that they mapped the community and they know exactly what the
returnees from Sudan want as they are always registered by Relief and
Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) and they always take part of the
registration.

He said that theirs is a continuation process to help vulnerable
people as borders have now been opened and they expect more returnees
to come from Sudan.

A 48 year- old woman who identified herself as Yom Malual Kuot has
said that the registration team came to her house and told her that
they had a shortage of registration papers.

“The registers came to me and told me that they will come back at
evening hours because of having no registration papers but they didn’t
come back again,” Kuot said.

Another woman identified as, Kuer Kuot Guet told Gurtong that it was
the first time she received the Red Cross assets since the time she
ran from her payam due to insecurity three years ago.

Kuer has a disability and stays with five children at Paliet of Bor town.

She urges the Red Cross society to continue helping vulnerable people.

However, Gai said that they work within their policy and mandate as
they carry out assessments of those in need.
