Warrap State Governor, Nyandeng Malek is appealing for additional financial support and budget allocation from the national government to boost development in the area. 16 May 2013 Warrap State Governor Nyandeng Malek at a past event. [Aping Kuluel Machuol] By James Deng Dimo WAU, 15 May 2013[Gurtong] –The governor said during the greater Bahr el Ghazal conference in Wau that Warrap state is one of the newly founded states which started from scratch with no physical infrastructure and markets to generate revenues. She said that they now need to be put together on equal footing with other nine sister states in budget allocation. In 2005 after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) between Sudan government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Warrap state capital was transferred to Kuacjok town which was the second leading town in Warrap. Kuacjok lacks proper roads linking to its counties just like other states in South Sudan. With the current insecurity, the residents practice cattle raiding especially in the neighbouring Unity state. “No special consideration made to address our special situation within the national budget, we are finding it difficult to function smoothly [in] delivery of services to our population as expected of us,” said Malek. She appealed to the national assembly speaker James Wanni Igga to consider the demanding situation in this coming financial year to get funds to construct a secretariat and a state parliament. The greater Bahr el Ghazal states conference kicked off yesterday in Wau to discuss the key challenges facing the region and the country, with leaders urging the residents to unite as one and develop their new nation. The conference is being conducted under the theme of “striving to Promote Peaceful Co-existence in the Region and the Nation around the Common Goals of Unity and Development” The National Speaker, James Wanni Igga is the guest of honour with other leaders in attendance including the national ministers, Members of Parliament, Council of states members, religious groups, commissions and international bodies.
