VSF-Germany Trains Jonglei Women Milk Traders On Business Management

The veterinary Sans Frontiers-Germany on Thursday launched a three-day
training for women milk traders on different aspects of business
management and handling of milk in Bor, the state capital of Jonglei
state.

BOR, 18 May 2013 [Gurtong] – The workshop aims to equip milk traders
on organization, management and business skills so that they can be
more efficient and perfect in conducting business.

The area coordinator for Veterinary and Frontiers-Germeny, Fask Demeke
has said that they are training the women in different aspects such as
the business planning, business management, record keeping, marketing
and costing and pricing of their products.

He said that they have the types of the support for the women to be
sure that the milk is hygienic, and qualify to the sanitation
standards.

Demeke said that they have supported the group with refrigerators, and
generators so that they can keep and preserve the milk in a clean
hygienic way.

He said that the training was targeting only women from its three milk
collection centres of Padak, Paraik and in Bor town with exclusion of
the villages and cattle camps.

The training was attended by more than 70 women milk traders’ in Bor county.

Deborah Yuang Jokuch who is the head of the women group said that they
have acquired knowledge from Veterinary Sans Frontiers-Germany after
the training.

She said that they usually bought milk from cattle keepers of which
they were not aware of quality adding that they need the entire
population of Jonglei state to be aware of dangers of unclean milk.

They have appreciated the great offer from Veterinary Sans Frontiers-Germany.

Participants were urged to be very cautious when preserving milk and before use.

“I am calling upon women to abandon traditional methods of milk
preservation and get adapted to the modern system invented,” said Mary
Leek, a participant.

Veterinary Sans Frontiers-Germany is an international Non-Governmental
Organization working in South Sudan to promote micro-business and
sanitation in sub-reliance communities.
