TORIT, 19 May 2013 [Gurtong] – She notably specifies that Meningitis,
Hepatitis E, among other diseases have not been reported except in
Malakal, Upper Nile State and possibly other states across the country
but Eastern Equatoria State is excluded.

“Cases of malaria rise could undeniably be high because of high
breeding but it could not be an outbreak as other people may think.
Eruptions of seasonal diseases could be high … We are managing. … Our
State Emergency Response Team is on an alert everyday and is
functioning very well to detect any case of alarming outbreak,” she
said.

She said that she is very confident no incident has been reported in
the entire state.

However, she cautions the public to maintain precautionary principle
by not taking risks so they can continue to attain healthy life.

The Minister further denies that there has ever been a threat and her
Ministry is keen to detect any such related threats so it is able to
put under control immediately urging parents in to promote hand
washing every time their children or members of family are conducting
domestic chores to ensure high standards of hygiene.

State health experts have advised the parents to prevent the spread of
diseases at the local levels.

In a bid to subsequently reduce disease infections right at family
level, the officials urged the residents to stay away from dirty
environment by staying in safe environments.

They have noted that hygiene efforts have to be paid critical
attention right from the family level for successful prevention.

The Minister’s Dr. Itto insistently appeals to all general public in
the state not invite health hazards but instead avoid them accordingly
by staying in a protected environment.
