Malakal, 23 May 2013 [Gurtong] - The game attracted many spectators in
and outside the university. The Sport Supervisor in UNU, Coach Majok
Lam Jock said the match came after the state Ministry of General
Education invited the university girls’ team to play against theirs.

Jock said that state team is the one expected to represent Upper Nile
State in Wau for the South Sudan National Inter-school tournament late
May.

“Our team was invited by the state team for this match. The state
volleyball team won the game 3–1. That means our team has lost. But it
was a good chance and got us unprepared. Our students have just
reported to campus and they have been busy with their lectures,” Jock
said.

“The university team was really not prepared. We did not know that we
would play a match at anytime near. It was really the opportunity the
state team got and defeated us,” he added.

Jock thanked the state authorities for inviting the university, saying
it creates a positive relation between the school students and the
Upper Nile University students.

“Sports make positive social relations between UNU and school
children. Visiting the university campus will also raise their
ambitions to study hard to reach the university level,” Jock noted.

Jock said the male students’ volleyball teams of UNU and the state
will face off soon and he expects his team to win this time.
