JUBA, 28 May 2013 [Gurtong]- Awol Ngok, an MP representing Aweil North
Constituency Six has said that he is in line with the Ngok Dinka in
refusing a joint Abyei Administration.

He said that the administration should be run by the United Nations
and for the referendum to also be administered by UN when its time
comes.

The MP said that the people of Abyei have been endangered and a joint
administration may lead the two countries into a full scale war.

Hon. James Kok, representing Fangak constituency One, said that the
leadership in Juba has been avoiding a war over Abyei, saying the area
should be made a demilitarized zone and the referendum be pursued
through the UN.

The leader of minority in the assembly, Onyoti Adigo Nyikwec said that
all people entering the area be disarmed for them to decide their
fate.

“UN and African Union should take administration and be given the
mandate to protect civilians,” he said.

He said that the Ngok Dinka should be armed to defend themselves
against the Miseriya if the AU and the UN are to take Abyei issue
seriously.

Onyoti also said that tackling the Abyei issue needs wisdom and that
it involves attracting the attention of the veto powers.

“There is need for diplomatic offenses. All the time, Khartoum is
ahead diplomatically,” he added.

They also called on the people of Abyei to return home as the two
countries of South Sudan and Sudan battle to reach a lasting solution,
calling for beefing up of the security in the area.
