UNMISS CELEBRATES PEACEKEEPERS’ DAY IN YAMBIO Thursday, 30 May 2013 06:48 | United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS Base celebrated the international peacekeepers’ day on May 29 in Yambio, Western Equatoria.
UNMISS state Coordinator Atakti Hailu delivered the message of the UN Secretary General to the gathering, Anisa Radio reported. He disclosed that this year’s UN Peacekeepers’ Day was an opportunity to raise awareness about new developments and to honor those who were slain in the past years serving under the blue flag. Mr Hailu said 111 peacekeepers were killed last year while many others were detained. State deputy governor Sapana Abui appreciated the UN support and deployment of peacekeepers to all the states of South Sudan. He requested that the mandate of UNMISS should be extended in order to educate people in peace building. The occasion ended with a friendly football match. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
