By Waakhe Simon Wudu JUBA, 8 June 2013 [Gurtong] - The team passed the memo that enshrined the establishment of the ambitious project that is set to transform the economies of the two countries. South Sudan’s Justice Minister John Luk Jok who signed the memo on behalf of the South Sudanese government said the endorsement of the memo is in accordance with the earlier move by the two countries to develop mutual cooperation and partnership in supporting the operation and construction of crude oil pipeline. The proposed pipeline will originate from South Sudan and will transmit crude oil to the port of Lamu, Kenya for the onward transportation to the world market. The memo now awaits debate by the National Council of Ministers. In 2012 March, South Sudan, Kenya and Ethiopia launched a mega, 1.5 shillings trillion The Lamu Port and Lamu Southern Sudan-Ethiopia Transport Corridor ( LAPSSET) at a groundbreaking ceremony that was jointly overseen by immediate former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki, President Salva Kiir of the Republic of South Sudan and late Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. The project, according to the three leaders, will create major business opportunities for the people of Lamu, the countries involved and the larger East African community.
