Dear Friends

The first of two major in-depths planned for this month is on the future of
humanitarianism: what will the industry look like in 10 years’ time? Some
of the issues we’ll be exploring include: What role for the UN? Who will be
the new players? What are the emerging risks that will drive future
disasters? The package will include film interviews with some key
humanitarian thinkers, imagining what the next decade will bring.

The second multimedia in-depth is on sexual violence. Through film, photo,
text and soundslides we focus on how individuals and communities are
fighting back against the societal and political apathy that is normalizing
rape in some societies.

Our series War on
drugs<http://www.irinnews.org/report/98363/analysis-southeast-asia-slowly-accepting-harm-reduction>
-
Collateral damage continues with reports out of Colombia and South Africa
looking at the humanitarian impact of the global drugs trade, and why new
thinking is required.

We are also continuing our series on Syria’s overlooked crisis -
sanitation<http://www.irinnews.org/report/98336/syria-s-forgotten-crisis-sanitation>.
While the fighting has claimed more than 92,000 lives, millions of people
in Syria - and across the region - are at risk this summer due to shortages
of clean water, a crumbling health system and breakdowns in waste
management.

Finally, the second installment of Our Lives
<http://www.irinnews.org/in-depth/98345/98/our-lives-a-survivors-guide-to-hard-times>-
which tracks 20 people in 10 countries as they try to get by in these
testing economic times - is out. The new-look page includes updated diary
entries and cost of living data. It’s worth a visit.

As always, your feedback to help us improve our service is appreciated.

Thanks
