JUBA, 17 July 2013 [Gurtong] – The adoption was reached in a workshop
organized by the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization
(CEPO).

The workshop brought the state actors involved in fighting corruption
including officials of the Anti-corruption Commission and leadership
of the state parliamentary Public Account Committee.

Edmond Yakani, the CEPO Program Coordinator in a statement to the
media said that, the guideline now paves way for the development of a
comprehensive policy framework for fighting corruption in the state.

“The guideline is like a check list. If there is any anti-corruption
policy developed, it should contain things which are in checklist,”
Yakani said.

He explained that the check list is for the independence of the
Anti-corruption Commission and requires that the political leadership
do not interfere with the work of the Anti-Corruption Commission
office at the State level.

It calls upon collective responsibilities from all institutions which
are fighting corruption like the Public Accounts Committee in the
legislative assembly, Physical Allocation and Monitoring Chamber at
the State level, the Public Grievant Chamber among other actors.

It also calls the involvement of the civil society support to the
Anti-corruption Commission in fighting corruption.

Hon. Charity Gaba, the Chairperson of the state Anti-corruption
Commission underscored efforts and support by the CEPO in supporting
the Commission.

She has called all the State actors in fighting the sinister to
cooperate and join hands.

“Let’s continue to hold hands together, move together so that together
we are strong,” Gaba said during the closure of the function at Home
and Away Business Center. “We need to hold our servants accountable,”
she added.

She also called the involvement of the media in fighting corruption.

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir last week restated his call in
fighting corruption, saying the move should be intensified in any
public spending institution up to the grassroots level.
