‘Deteriorating security in parts of East Darfur’: Unamid

MUHAJERIYA (19 July 2013) - The security situation in and around
Muhajeriya town in East Darfur has been "deteriorating, with accounts of
increased movement of armed groups around the town," according to a report
by Unamid.

The latest update via the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian
Affairs (OCHA) says that despite the deteriorating security situation, some
displaced people from various locations, including Shearia town and Abu
Dangal, have returned to Muhajeriya town, according to the government’s
Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC).

The Commissioner of Yassin locality has called on humanitarian
organisations to provide assistance to these returnees. An inter-agency
mission – with Unamid escort – is expected to visit Muhajeriya town in the
coming days to verify the numbers of returnees and assess their needs.
