November 26, 2013 (KHARTOUM) – The rebel Sudan People’s Liberation
Movement-North (SPLM-N) on Monday said they destroyed a government military
convoy at Umm Kraisha, west of Wali area in South Kordofan state

While, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), on the same day, announced the
beginning of extensive military operations to end rebellion in the country
and pledged to eliminate all rebel groups by the end of the next summer.

The SPLM-N spokesperson, Arnu Ngutulu Lodi, said in a statement released on
Monday that their forces inflicted heavy casualties on SAF in Umm Kraisha,
in Nuba Mountains. He further pointed that they captured 3 tanks in good
condition and more than 20 mounted vehicles.

The rebel official stressed that fighting is still going on in Karko and
Northern Sabi areas, west of Dilling .

Earlier this month, the Sudanese defence minister, Abdel-Rahim Mohamed
Hussein, announced the beginning of the summer military operations which
aims to end rebellion in Darfur, South Kordofan, and Blue Nile.

Peace talks between the two parties are deadlocked as they have failed to
reach a common ground for the negotiations. The government offers to
discuss only the conflict in the Two Areas with the SPLM-N while the rebels
demand holistic process.

The commander of SAF’s 14th infantry division, Abdel-Hadi Abdalla, promised
in a public rally in Dilling to bring the rebel groups to peace by force,
saying that SAF launched extensive military operations at multiple war
zones in order to bring rebellion to an end.

Abdalla stressed that SAF carry out its duties and responsibilities in
accordance with the constitution and the law, saying that it protects
people against negative practices of the rebel Sudan Revolutionary Front
(SRF) who according to him target and loot civilian areas.

He further affirmed SAF’s ability to end rebellion in South Kordofan state
by the end of the next summer.

The governor of South Kordofan, Adam Al-Faki, for his part, asserted the
need to cleanse the state of the SRF who targets innocent civilians and
said that the precarious security situation in the state particularly
Dilling affected the provision of various services, vowing to solve all
state’s problems.

He renewed the call for the rebels to resort to dialogue as the only means
for ending war and achieving peace.

Al-Faki pointed that all citizens in the SPLM-N controlled areas could
resort to any of SAF’s positions in areas of military operations west of
Dilling.

He emphasised that the government is keen to protect citizens and ensure
their safety, calling upon local administration leaders to play a bigger
role in convincing the rebels to meet the desires of citizens in achieving
peace.

Since 2011 the SPLM-N have fought SAF and their aligned militia the Popular
Defence Forces (PDF) in South Kordofan state.
