*RUMBEK, 26 November 2013 [Gurtong] – *The five percent deduction was
announced by the Lakes State Ministry of Finance, Trade, Industry and
Commence on November 15, according to a document signed by the Finance
Minister Joseph Maker Madit on November 15 which was extended to press by
confidential sources within the ministry.

The document indicated that the cut will affect Lakes state civil servants
and was supposed to be executed by November but now being imposed on
October salaries as a compulsory contribution to the ruling SPLM.

They Lakes State employees from various ministries made several demands on
the state government to revise what they named as “an ill decision” imposed
by state authorities without reviewing the living conditions of the
employees.

However, the Finance Minister has distanced himself from the decision to
deduct the salaries saying that the decision was taken under the directive
of Lakes state caretaker Governor Maj-Gen Matur Chut Dhuol.
