*A team of experts working for the UN found eight unexploded aircraft
bombs buried in Yambio.*

Western Equatoria TDI second in-charge Zachariah Awuol Awet told Anisa
Radio that the contractors conducted a non-technical survey in 62 schools
and bomas where communities reported unexploded ordinance.

He said the TDI team located eight unexploded bombs in Yambio: four in
Napere, one next to the state prison wall and the others in Pazuo, Kpirabe
and Khor Habiba residential areas.

Mr Awet added that the survey found no mines in Yambio.

He disclosed that early in November the team successfully removed one bomb
near Napere stream.

Currently TDI experts they are digging another two bombs in Napere, near
the Catholic Bishop’s House, and close to the state prison.

Mr Awet cited improper information from the local communities and lack of a
safe site to destroy the bombs as the biggest challenges the contractors
found.

He appealed to the local communities of Yambio to give all information so
that TDI teams could act.

Resident Amuna Ousman reported that 20 years ago she saw an aircraft
dropping bombs in Napere: one killed one dog, but it entered the ground
without exploding.
