*By James Deng Dimo WAU 2, December 2013[Gurtong] - *Police, SPLA, Fire
brigade, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and other special forces
are involved in the operation said to be a response to the calls by the
town residents.

“The authority has also banned disco plays at homes without license from
the police,” said town mayor Arkangelo Anyar adding that anyone found
conducting discos at his home or in the hotel without approval will face a
fine of 1,000 South Sudanese Pounds or three months imprisonment.

Anyar calls on parents to advise their children to adopt good cultural
values and respect themselves.

Speaking to Gurtong, the state police commissioner Major general Akot Deng
Akot said the act was an authorization from the town municipal council as
it was a response to calls by the residents to arrest those involved in
criminal activities.

“Any arrested suspect is subjected to her or his parents for identification
before the police could make any release,” he said adding that the period
spent by the suspect under custody is under the responsibility of town
mayor in terms of services and accommodation provision.

The commissioner said that Wau town is preparing to celebrate Christmas in
a serene way without fear of menace especially those carrying knives and
different kinds of weapons.

Akot Deng also added that the security will persist with onslaught and
capture the groups until the town is completely secure within three weeks
ahead of Christmas celebrations.

The Sunday arrest of young girls and boys was badly criticized by citizens
at the freedom square describing the deed as unlawful.

Among those arrested on Saturday and Sunday were released without charges
and sent home after their clothes were cut into pieces.

The people found standing in a group are also ordered to get into the
police pickup trucks.

Other suspects targeted include the girls wearing trousers and boys who
have plaited their hairs.
