*Malakal 08 December 2013 [Gurtong]-*The day commemorated at Hard Rock
Cafe, UNMISS Log base under the theme; “Young Global, Active Youth
Volunteering for a better world,” raised a sum of SSP2, 560 and US$340.

Both national and international UNMISS staff attended the occasion led by
their state Coordinator Deborah Schein.

Dr. Meroni Abraham, a medical doctor from the United Nations Volunteers
Organizing Committee thanked his fellow UNMISS staff for raising the funds
to support disadvantaged children in the state capital.

The day was made colorful with the UNMISS athletic race around the compound
where the winners were awarded some medals.

Sandeep Singh from the Indian Battalian-1 (12minutes), Anter Yang (South
Sudanese, 14 minutes) and Genny Dalsasso (best female) were first, second
and third respectively in a race of five kilometers.

Dr. Abraham said the athletics demonstrated by the UNMISS staff is a good
practice for better health of bodies and growth of muscles.

Awarding the medals, UNMISS’ State Coordinator Schien congratulated the
athletes and thanked the entire UNMISS team for their generous contribution
to support vulnerable children in Malakal town.

Last year’s celebration of the UN Volunteers Day saw such contribution
going to the prisoners of Malakal town.
