JUBA, 27 December 2013 [Gurtong] – Moses Ruai, the Spokesman of the
Unity State Interim Military government told Gurtong on Friday that
committees are being formed by the interim government and are
currently on the exploration of how to resume and better oil
production after temporary suspense following clashes last week.

On December 21, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) forces loyal
to former Vice President Dr. Riek Machar seized Unity State with
rebels now saying they are activating resumption of oil.

After they seized Bentiu town then, the Commander of the SPLA-turned
rebel Maj. Gen. James Koang declared himself the Interim Military
Governor and suspended all Ministers and appointed caretakers.

The rebels seized the town after fierce battle with the government
forces with hundreds of both civilians and armed men reported to have
lost their lives.

Rebel Spokesman of Unity State Interim Military government Moses Ruai
Lat said the oil production was suspended following the clashes.

“Now there are committees that are being formed – by the Interim
Military government - for Tharjath oil field and also Unity State oil
fields to meet over and discuss on activities and for the normal
resumption of all the oil fields,” Moses told Gurtong.

He denied statements by South Sudanese Defense Minister and army
Spokesman that the rebels only control the State capital, Bentiu.

Kuol Manyang, the South Sudanese Defense Minister early Friday told
Gurtong that Riek’s forces only control Bentiu but not the whole
state.
