*Women in Nimule withdrew from HIV voluntary counselling and testing due to
family members’ accusations and humiliations.*

HIV Officer at Nimule Hospital Kidero Rose told Emmanuel Radio that women
complain that husbands discriminated against and stigmatized those tested
positive.

Ms Kidero said some men beat their wives for exposing their HIV status
after voluntary counselling and testing.

She said some women resorted to hide their HIV status after visiting VCT,
fearing abuses and hush traditional beliefs.

The Officer said wives and husbands always suspect each other when one
attend voluntary counselling and testing.

Ms Kidero said other husbands prefer going for HIV test and taking
Anti-retroviral drugs without disclosing to their partners.

Ms Kidero said HIV AIDS infection was high in Nimule town among women
between 25-45 years old.

She attributed the high prevalence to a previous high turn up of women to
voluntary counselling testing.

Nimule HIV department reports indicated high trend of family partners
hiding their HIV status.

In Torit town, men avoid voluntary HIV counselling and testing and prefer
to know their status through pregnant women.
