Warrap Beefs Up Security At Border With Unity State Authorities in Warrap state have announced beefing up security along the border with neighbouring Unity State as its first plan B against the rebels attack on its civilian population. 03 February 2014
By James Deng Dimo *WAU, 03, Feb 2014 [Gurtong] - *A group of armed men suspected to be rebels loyal to Riek Machar on Friday attacked cattle camps in Lou Arick area, Domogorok, Kanythi and Riangnhom, Tonj North. The raiders made away with scores of cattle, killing over 20 people and wounding over 40 others. "I would like to tell the government of South Sudan and the international community that the security in Warrap state is now up-to-date and that we have started a youth mobilization to join our defensive army to protect our civilians from rebels' threat," said the State Deputy Governor Akech Tong Aleu. He was optimistic the government forces will defeat and repulse any attack by the rebels on the state premises. "In the Friday attack, 150 rebels were killed as the SPLA forces gained momentum. They captured 150 AK47, four heavy PKK machine guns and one Brigadier General among the rebels was also killed," said Tong. Tong said that cattle raiders do not have such weapons. "The capturing of machine guns has clearly proved that these were not cattle raiders but they were really rebels who come in an organized way to attack our state," he said. He also mentioned that most of the rebels were the new recruits, "the so called white army" who are all civilians. "We are right now prepared as community mobilization continues to protect ourselves from the rebels," Tong said.
