Governor: South Sudan Is Above One Tribe The Governor of Eastern Equatoria State (EES) Louis Lobong Lojore says no tribe is above South Sudan. 08 February 2014 Governor Louis Lobong Lojore of Eastern Equatoria says South Sudan is above one tribe. [Gurtong]
By Peter Lokale Nakimangole *TORIT, 08 February 2014 [Gurtong] -* He rebuked a group of armed men loyal to Dr. Riek Machar who recently attempted to overthrow the democratically elected government of South Sudan in pursuit of a tribal interest. "These are people who put their own selfish interest first before that of the country. They have fallen short of the SPLM values of unity, equality and progress and above all the peace and love of our dear of the Republic of South Sudan," Lobong said. The Mid-December internal power struggle within the ruling SPLM party degenerated into internal armed conflict pitting armed loyalists of President Kiir and his former deputy Machar against each other. President Kiir called it a "coup attempt" but Machar denied it, saying it is a ploy to eliminate the president's critics. Dr. Machar and his followers however accuse president Kiir of dictatorship, saying they want a democratic South Sudan government for which they are fighting. The conflict which started in Juba quickly spread to Bor, Bentiu, Malakal and the latest in Tonj North county of Warrap state. Thousands of people have been displaced, killed and property of both government and development and humanitarian partners in Unity, Jonglei and Upper Nile states have been looted and destroyed.
