*A National Legislative Assembly member representing Rejaf Payam of Juba
County in Central Equatoria State refuted BBC report that SPLM/A in
opposition in Addis Ababa peace talks wanted him to participate on their
side.*
Luka Tombekana Monoja termed the report as blackmailing and politically
insulting.
He said he was surprised to hear that he was invited to mediate conflicts.
Dr Monoja added that he was not afraid of risks involved in naming him
publicly since his life was at risk for over 40 years in politics.
He said if either of the parties wanted him for mediation, he should be
consulted directly on telephone since they were colleagues in the SPLM
party and parliament, instead of blackmailing.
He said SPLM members could vote by secret ballots if the leadership so
wished and that it was up to the party leadership to experience the
consequences of the decision to endorse voting by show of hands.
Dr Monoja added that voting by show of hands was not a point of argument,
but a provision that could be amended if the system wished.
The senior politician said voting by secret ballots did not require
knowledge of reading and writing as claimed by SPLM chairmanship.
Dr Monoja said he attended December 6 SPLM press conference by Dr Riek
Machar as a party member and was not able to attend the successive
conference conducted by James Wani Igga because he was not informed.
He dismissed reports that he and Dr Peter Adwok Nyaba were detained
together with others.
