*JUBA, 17 February 2014 [Gurtong] - *The communities made their
condemnation last week during a community meeting organized in Meluth
County.

According to the Melut County Commissioner Mr. Akuoch Ateng Diing, the
Apadang communities decried the brutal attacks by the rebels on community
members of Upper Nile State during which scores of people have been killed.

The commissioner said: "We were almost at the peak of development but they
(rebels) have now returned us back. What a shame!"

"We need peace to quickly return to the South Sudanese homes so that people
live in harmony. The rebels burned down all the houses, killed civilians
even those that managed to ran away for their homes," the commissioner
added.

The communities appealed to the international community members such as the
Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to hold rebel leaders Dr.
Riek Machar and Gathoth Gatluak accountable for causing unrest that has
claimed so many innocent lives.

"We want peace to prevail in our country, this is not the time for us to be
engaged in war again," said Ateng.

The community asked the two warring groups to stop fighting and respect the
cessation of hostilities agreement (CoH) they both signed in Addis Ababa,
Ethiopia recently.
