*JUBA, 25 February 2014 [Gurtong]-* Fighting erupted in Malakal last
Tuesday where the rebels managed to enter the town forcing the SPLA
government troops to withdraw after a heavy two-day fighting.

Hon. Jiben, who is also the government spokesperson said that the rebels
have evacuated their people who were in UNMISS log base site and their
wounded and injured colleagues from Malakal teaching hospital.

The commissioner of Nasir County on Thursday issued a statement to all the
residents owning vehicles to surrender to his authority for evacuation of
people.

Jiben said the fighting has led to the displacement of more than 10, 000
civilians of the state to the northern counties for safety.

The international Medical Corps (IMC) operating in South Sudan has reported
148 wounded, saying 14 others couldn't be saved after getting caught up in
a cross fire as SPLA clashed with the rebels in Malakal.

According to the information minister, some Nuer civilians who were in the
UN based camp in Malakal have now been evacuated to Nasir by the rebels.
