[image: Home] *Darfur News Update by Radio Dabanga (25 - 31 March)* *UXOs, fever plague bombed East Jebel Marra* *Aerial bombardments by the Sudanese Air Force in East Jebel Marra, Darfur, continued to cause casualties during the past week. A man and two of his children on their donkey cart were killed in Khazan Tunjur on Thursday afternoon. On Saturday, the air force bombarded the area of Shangil Tobaya, 60 km south of North Darfur's state capital, killing a number of cattle and donkeys. Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that dozens of unexploded ordnances (UXOs) are spread in East Jebel Marra, as a by-product of the aerial bombardments. The explosion of one killed 12 camels and wounded ten others in Katur on Friday. "The presence of the bombs has restricted the people's collecting of water, straw and firewood, as well as livestock grazing", a local source said. Residents of Fanga, Konjara, Sharafa, Sauda, and Dolma villages believe that the continuous bombings are also the cause of the outbreak of diseases. They complained about fever, headaches, and pain in the neck, "caused by the contamination of drinking water and the destruction of water sources". "Also, dozens of livestock are dying daily, especially goats and sheep", a listener told Radio Dabanga.* *11,000 newly displaced living rough in South Darfur camp* *About 11,000 newly displaced in El Salam camp, south of Nyala, in Bielel locality, are still living in the open without water, food or shelter. "The newly displaced are living in extremely bad conditions", sheikh Mahjoub Adam Tabaldiya of El Salam camp told Radio Dabanga. "They are facing an acute drinking water crisis. Most of them spend the whole day to collect one jerry can of water." He added that the displaced are still trapped in the camp because of the spreading of militias along the road linking El Salam camp with Nyala city and other places. "It is too risky to leave the camp." Last week, Tabaldiya explained that government-backed militiamen had resumed their assaults against the displaced. "The gunmen have erected tents on Nyala road, and other roads near the capital. The camp residents cannot go out shopping, or fetching firewood or straw." On 23 March, gunmen beat and whipped 13 displaced, stole their vehicle, and abducted one resident for two days, according to the sheikh.* *More from Radio Dabanga:* *At least 15 villages raided in Kutum, North Darfur* KUTUM LOCALITY (31 Mar.) - The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continued their attacks on areas in Kutum, North Darfur, for the tenth consecutive day.
