Following correspondence with IRIN, they have corrected their article "Darfur's deepening conflict" because (in their own words) it "gave an incorrect account of the start of conflict in Darfur". They have now replaced the sentence, "Darfur’s war began in 2003 with a rebellion by tribes complaining of political and economic marginalisation against the Arab-dominated government of President Omar al-Bashir" (immediately after the sub-heading "How did we get here?") with the more accurate: "Conflict between different communities in Darfur, some encouraged by the government, started in the 1980s, and violence escalated dramatically with a rebellion in 2003. Political and economic marginalization by the Arab-dominated government of President Omar al-Bashir was a key driver of the war."
