*TORIT, 04 June 2015 [Gurtong]* – The committee that was formed last month
by the State Council of Ministers will be headed by Cabinet and
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ochan John Bongomin.

Bongomin told Gurtong that his first step would be to meet respective
sub-committees to empower them on several issues including the budget for
the events across the state.

He said his committee will make a formal contact with the national
government's Secretary General who is the current chairperson of the
National Organizing Committee to deliberate on the logistics.

“Among activities to precede the upcoming commemorations will include
security arrangements, decorations of the freedom square both at the state
and County and Administrative Areas respectively alongside organising the
state cultural dances and troops' matching”, he said.

He said the event will be a reflection of the long struggle by South
Sudanese towards self-rule.

He however, expressed regrets over the continued and unnecessary deadly
conflict caused by power hungry leaders, saying reconciliation is the best
way to bring peace to South Sudan.

In a related development, the national council of ministers in April
approved 129 million South Sudanese pounds (SSP) for the country’s fourth
independence anniversary celebrations in July.

A regular meeting in April, chaired by President Salva Kiir Mayardit also
resolved to fund celebrations in all the ten states, including the Greater
Pibor Administrative Area and in Abyei region.
