* JUBA, 06 June 2015 [Gurtong]* –The Warrap State Minister of Information
Paul Dhel Gum told Gurtong that the youths from both sides have been
convinced to stop the fighting.

He said the two communities have returned to their areas to cultivate after
fleeing their homes two weeks ago.

“The government will continue to tell the two communities that there is no
better reason for people to keep fighting from time to time. Apuk and Aguok
communities are one people and they have lived peacefully together for
several years,” Gum stated.

Conflicts between the two communities have been simmering over the past
months, claiming a dozen lives.

The state government has put the death toll at about 20 people so far
despite unconfirmed reports that the figure could be double the provided
figure.

Gum said the state government has created an investigation committee led by
the deputy governor Akec Tong Aleu, which he said, has traversed the two
counties in the last three weeks to quell the feuds.

As the violence escalates local politicians have blamed the state
government leadership of inaction with leaders staying out of the state on
most occasions.

They have criticised State Governor Nyandeng Malek for continued absence
and leaving the responsibility to her deputy.
