PR: JUN/07/2015:

Following the violence orchestrated by the Dinka elements of the
pro-government SPLA-Juba, in Mundri West County, in the largely peaceful
Western Equuatoria State, the government security agents in Juba are now
out harassing citizens presumed to hail from those parts of the country.

One such case is the arbitrarily arrest of Mr Driuni Jakani , an Executive
Director of a local NGO operating in Lacha locality, of Mundri West County.
Mr Jakani is reported to have gone missing for over two days now.

According to a source that prefers anonymity , Mr Jakani arrived in Juba
from Mundri on June, 4th, 2015, a day before he was arrested by security
personnel. The source further confirmed that he received a phone call out
on Mr Jakani,s mobile phone presumably from a security personal who
informed him that Mr Jakani is with them and safe and that they shouldn’t
worry about his whereabouts.

Mr Jakani is the Executive Director of a local non-governmental
organization (NGO) which was established by him since 2008. With Head
Office in a village called Lacha, south of Mundri Town, and somewhere
between the Bari and the Garia payams, the NGO is involved in many
humanitarian projects in the area and offers assistance to internally
displaced people (IDPs).

In the wake of the looting, shooting and killing sprees carried in Mundri
town on Friday 22, May 2015, by the predominantly Dinka SPLA soldiers loyal
to Juba government , Mr Jakani had been instrumental in assisting the
terrorised civilians by transporting the sick, the disabled, the elderly
and the children out of Mundri to safety in Bari and Lacha localities.
using his organization’s vehicles.

Could it be that the government in Juba is now seeing him as an enemy
because he saved the lives of those disabled and elderly citizens and
children from what was a massacre in the waiting as the very SPLA soldiers
who were expected to protect the civilian population against an outside
attach , turned around and begun a looting, shooting, and killing spree?

This is a call to all Representatives of Local and International
Organisations who cherish Human Rights and Justice and all Diplomatic
Missions from the Free World operating in South Sudan to stand together for
the immediate release of Mr Driuni Jakani. His arbitrary arrest in the
hands of the security agents in Juba is a slap on the face to all
organisation and individuals involved in Humanitarian Assistance, in South
Sudan and elsewhere in the world.
