officers prevented opposition leaders from travelling to France

on Monday. They were invited to participate in the European Parliament
hearing on Sudan in Strasbourg, scheduled to take place on 9 June. The
passports of seven opposition leaders, including Maryam El Mahdi and
Mohamed Abdallah El Doma, co vice-presidents of the National Umma Party,
and Siddig Yousef, senior member of Sudanese Communist Party, were taken
from them at Khartoum International Airport. Farah El Agar, legal
consultant of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), and
Ibrahim El Sheikh, head of the Sudanese Congress Party were stopped from
travelling to Strasbourg on Saturday. Faroug Abu Eisa, chairman of the
National Consensus Forces (NCF), a coalition of opposition parties, was not
allowed to travel to Cairo for medical checks last Wednesday. The NCF
chairman told Radio Dabanga on Sunday that security officers had informed
him on Wednesday that the travel ban is a political decision against the
signatories of the Sudan Appeal. In the two-page communiqué, signed in
Addis Ababa on 3 December last year, the allied opposition calls for
regime-change and the formation of a Sudan, based on democracy and equal
citizenship. The signatories were invited by the European Parliament

in
cooperation with the Sudan Centre for Transitional Justice and Peace
Studies, to discuss options for reaching peace in Sudan. Abu Eisa called
the travel ban “an affront to the European Parliament”. Malik Agar, head of
the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) rebel alliance, said that the action by
the security apparatus clearly proves that the newly appointed Sudanese
government will continue its war policies and suppression of civic
freedoms. “Those banned from travelling intended to contribute to the
Sudanese peace process. By barring them, the regime affirms its rejection
of ending the wars in the country by peaceful means,” he stressed. The
opposition has denounced the new cabinet

and state governors, appointed by President Al Bashir on Saturday

*WFP voucher programme 'severely underfunded'*
*June 7 - 2015 KHARTOUM The funding for cash and voucher assistance by the
UN World Food Programme (WFP) is facing a severe shortfall
<http://dabangasudan.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ac95e0e4d9338971bb35b6965&id=126f0f64de&e=5ffa50b614>.
WFP estimates the extent of this funding shortfall at almost $24.8 million,
including $18.4 million in transfer value for the next six months. A
complete break in funding is anticipated from July onwards. In response,
WFP has already halted a number of expansion plans and will most likely cut
rations in some locations for the month of June. If no funds are mobilised,
WFP may have to further cut assitance, or even suspend the entire
programme. This puts almost 500,000 people, mostly displaced, at risk of
receiving no food vouchers from September onwards. WFP is urgently
requesting donors to make available any additional funds to prevent closure
of the programme. Photo by Albert González Farran, Unamid, Feb. 2014 The
WFP is also conducting a survey

among the displaced living in the Darfur camps, in order to classify them
according to their needs. WFP representative Bakri Osman told Radio Dabanga
that the process that began last year in some of the camps will be
completed early next year. The UN agency, in collaboration with partner
organisations and camp leaders, has gathered information from 600,000
displaced so far. Osman commended the cooperation by the displaced, and
said that the final classification will be based on the results of the
survey. The WFP is currently providing food assistance to 1,400,000
displaced in 50 Darfur camps. Of the 2.6 million displaced in Darfur, some
50,000 newly displaced were registered in 2015. Another 100,000 people,
most of them hiding in the mountains and valleys of Jebel Marra, remain cut
off from the outer world

Relief organisations have not been allowed to intervene for “reasons of
insecurity”.*
