In a whirlwind trip to South Africa, Sudan's president draws headlines. Meanwhile, the Nuba Mountains marks four years of war. Sudan President Omar al-Bashir's South Africa visit this week, and quick departure over possible arrest, came the same month that war broke out in the Nuba Mountains four years ago. As events unfolded around the International Criminal Court's 2009 indictment of Bashir for genocide crimes in Darfur, civilians in the Nuba Mountains gathered around radios for news: Would Bashir be arrested? For them, the story hits home. The Sudan government continues to regularly bomb civilian areas in the Nuba Mountains, including with cluster bombs <http://nubareports.us4.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=8f4546a2fa9b0892261b50497&id=bc70ffc092&e=fd1f604111> that most countries in the world have banned. The war started in June of 2011, when conflict broke out following a failed promise of fair elections. Nuba Reports journalists have been reporting on it ever since.
