Lakes State Speaker Relieved From Duty The Caretaker Governor of Lakes State, Maj-Gen Matur Chut Dhuol has issued a decree relieving the state’s Speaker, Baipiath Majuec Rilpuou from his duty while appointing the Deputy Speaker to Act until the August House elects a new Speaker. 21 June 2015
By Gabriel Mayom RUMBEK, June 18, 2015 [Gurtong] - The reason for relieving the Speaker has not been issued yet. An Mp representing Wulu Constituency number 10, Shadrack Bol Machok, said legislators have been asked to call for a sitting on Friday to elect a new Speaker a move that was not welcomed by the MPs calling on the national government to intervene. Dhuol said that the move to remove the Speaker from his position is in accordance with the article 199c and article 155 of the state constitution which accords him the authority to relieve and appoint. However, Members of Parliament in the state say that his move is unconstitutional and instead are calling for the Caretaker Governor to step down. Maj-Gen Matur Chut Dhuol is one of the 35 top military officers who were removed from active military service and put on a reserve list until reassigned in a separate presidential decree on 21 January 2013.
