By Agoth Abraham AWEIL, June 17, 2015 [Gurtong] – The four deceased were found dead in the territories of South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal state of Aweil West and North Counties where these pastoralists from Sudan usually cross over to South Sudan looking for water and green pastures on seasonal basis. In a ceremony organized by South Sudan’s Dinka Malual of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state on Friday last week, both peace and border committees of both tribes met at Gok-machar [Aweil North county] to officially hand over the blood money witnessed by NBG state government. Dinka Malual peace committee while handing over the money to their fellow neighbors of Rezeigat from Sudan apologized on behalf of the entire Dinka Malual citizens for what they termed ‘unfortunate killings’ of those that lost their lives this year from unknown perpetrators. 3 Rezeigat cattle keepers were found dead on February 24th 2015 at Kiir Adem Payam in Aweil North County while one person was found dead in Aweil West County on 25 February respectively. There killers however, are not known. According to seasonal migration and border relation communal peace accord signed every year by the two tribes with technical support from International organizations, each host tribe is responsible of the cause of anything happening to the other visiting tribe members. While witnessing the event between the two communities, acting Caretaker Governor Salva Chol Ayat said the state government is not part of of the agreement signed by two communities every year, but it can witness such important event for the sake of peace at the border. Chol appreciates the two communities for their commitment to resolve their difference as per agreed principles but strongly urges the Rezeigat representatives to dislodge the South Sudanese rebels in the lands of Rezeigat for the sake of peace which he said Rezeigat and Dinka Malual have the common benefit at the borders. The chairperson of the Rezeigat peace committee Mr. Muhammed Ali confirmed the receipt of the compensation for the 4 dead Rezeigat tribesmen from Malual Dinka peace committee. He appreciates the implementation of the agreement and support of state government in terms of transport it gave to the peace committees. Rezeigat and Messirya of Sudan seasonally migrate to South Sudan’s bordering states like Warap, Unity, Western and Northern Bahr el Ghazal states looking for water for their animals. However, this is primarily granted in advance earlier January every year by the chiefs, community elders with initiation from the nominated peace and border committee members from both neighboring tribes. The conference with vast resolutions also guarantees the security for the visiting community members, limited movement and many other things including compensation for the loss of properties and lives from both sides.
