WARRAP, June 30 2015 [Gurtong] –Three weeks ago, two-thirds majority
of the legislative assembly voted to amend the constitution against
those who have been calling for cancellation of the motion in protest
that Madam Nyandeng Malek be removed before extending the tenure.

The extension of Warrap Governor’s office and the amendment of the
constitution have been controversial as some MPs have been opposing
the extension of the Governors tenure claiming that she has failed in
bringing development to the state since she was voted in.

Warrap State Information Minister Paul Dhol said that those opposing
comes from the same ruling party in the state.

“The opposition was from the same party and what makes it
contradictory is that if there is any problem within the same party it
is upon the party to discus. But this shows that there is a personal
interest over the issue. They are looking for power and power cannot
come to them the way they are presenting it.”

“The SPLM as a party has not divided but it is the personal interest
that has overcome the party’s interest in the assembly. Because there
is no way a law maker can reject the amendment of the law.”

Dhol however said that the party has not divided but going through a
disagreement between its members.

Achol Chier Rehan, a member of parliament in Warrap was among those
MPs rejecting the Governor’s tenure to be extended saying that
Governor Nyandeng Malek has failed in her duties.
