*JUBA, 23, July 2015 [Gurtong]*-CEPO hopes the Intergovernmental Agency for
Development (IGAD) plus team will deliberate on South Sudan Peace proposal
focusing at discussing the draft comprise document, which the warring
parties are expected to negotiate and sign in the quest for lasting peace.

Mr. Edmund Yakani, the Executive Director of CEPO has lauded the united
stand of IGAD Plus team, which he believes, will make significant
contributions in the negotiation process.

“There is unity of all the players around the peace process, this process
of discussion on the compromised document. We wish them to continue” he
told the reporters at a news conference on Thursday.

“We need to acknowledge that this process should lead to peace. We worry
that the failure of peace in this round of talks may have a great impact on
our lives” said Yakani.

“South Sudan negotiating parties should compromise and accommodate certain
issues during the mediation process for the sake of making peace realized.”

“The contentious issues of power-sharing, decision making threshold and
security arrangement are setting drawbacks on the peace deal and IGAD-plus
should critically analyzed them and offer practical options that mobilized
the negotiation parties of South Sudan to mediate for peace” he said.

Yakani said the IGAD-plus approach has instilled hope of attaining peace in
South Sudan in this round of the mediation process adding that members of
the regional and international communities have demonstrated a united
position of pushing for peace in South Sudan.

“The challenge in the previous round of the mediation was the absence of
the united position among the various actors around the mediation process”
he pointed out.

“The beginning of the IGAD-Plus deliberation on the next round of the peace
mediation for South Sudan is encouraging since it brings in several actors
including Troika” he said.

Yakani further said it is the primary responsibility of the leadership of
South Sudan negotiating parties to make peace prevail including immediate
stoppage of the war by demonstrating political will for successful peace
negotiation.

“Taking position during the negotiation without the attitude of compromise
and accommodation for peace in the next round of the mediation will
demonstrate that South Sudanese negotiating parties are careless about the
loss of lives and properties of the innocent citizens” he decried.
“This war is a senseless war and much influenced by personal or group of
individuals love for political power”, Mr. Yakani stressed.
