GPAA To Soon Receive A Budget From National Government The Minister of Information of Greater Pibor Administrative Area, Sam David said that GPAA is expecting its budget from the National government by the end of July. 26 July 2015
By Jacob A. Jok *BOR, 25 July 2015 [Gurtong] –* Since the peace agreement between the GRSS and the Cobra Faction called for the formation of a new Greater Pibor Administrative Area in 2014 there as not been any budget allocated for the area. However Sam David the Minister of Information said that the area will by the end of the month receive its budget. “We have been promised by the national government that our budget will be released with th e other ten States budget including the Abyei budget. And we see that it will be at the end of this month and we are still waiting to receive,” Sam David Told Gurtong last Friday. Six Counties were established in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area as part of the negotiation process to provide the Pibor administration with access to services and development; these Counties however have been operating without a budget. In 2014, all the natives of GPAA were happy to have their own administrative area so that administrative arrangement deliver direct services and create access to development to all ethnic communities of greater Pibor. But unfortunately, services were not delivered due to lack of s budget to support the new created institutions in GPAA. Meanwhile, this year with the new restructuring of leadership and hope for budget approval, David said all services needed will reach the people in time. He said that their priority was to achieve peace in the area but as they have peace in place they hope to achieve development. “The GPAA area is not the same as the previous years. Now there are little changes in the communities, peace is there and some development has started,” He said. David said South Sudan’s government is working closely with them as a new administrative area to create peace. “We are South Sudanese people and this is our area although the GPAA administrative has nothing to carry out its operation, still we can maintain the institution because South Sudan belongs to us all,” He said.
