By: Jacob Achiek *BOR, 26 July 2015 [Gurtong] –*Last Friday, policemen were sent to apprehend a suspect who is believed to have impregnated a girl. The suspect was at a playing ground with his brothers and other youth when a force which was mandated to apprehend him issued him with an arrest warrant. However, a misunderstanding ensued between them [the youth and police force], which escalated into a fight that went out of control. Commissioner Mamer Ruk strongly condemned the killing of the innocent civilian who was not connected with the incident. “The police force did not follow the right procedures because the arrest shouldn’t be done in a public place. They should have looked for the suspect at his residential place,” Commissioner Ruk said. Mayen James, from Bor County explained to Gurtong that a man from Biong, a community from Makol-chuei Boma impregnated a girl and later refused to marry the girl as per the culture of the girl’s community. “He was not willing and that is why his in-laws, the father of the girl took legal procedures through,” Mayen said. Commissioner Ruk said that the security situation is calm and all suspect who were involved in the incident have been arrested and the police is investigating the matter. Authorities from Jonglei’s State police were not willing to respond when contacted by Gurtong on Sunday.
