JUBA – Salva Kiir’s presidential Press Secretary, Ateny Wek Ateny has
lashed out on IGAD mediators for giving a percentage share in the proposed
compromise agreement to the former detainees commonly known as the G10.

Ateny was reacting to the 14% power sharing given to the former detainees
and other political parties in the document.

“Former detainees are already in Juba and part of the government, so what
is the need for giving them their own share of power?” – Ateny told Eye
Radio

Ateny also rejected part of the proposal that gives the armed opposition
53% control of the Greater Upper Nile, saying it encourages division of the
country and squandering of the sovereignity of the nation. He however
disclosed that the government in Juba accepts the 53% and 33% power split
between the government and opposition (respectively) in the national
government.

IGAD-PLUS mediators has given the two warring factions until August 17,
2015 to consult their bases and make suggestions. If the two groups’
suggestions continue to divert and uncompromise, the current IGAD-plus
power sharing proposal will be imposed.

The proposal call for the reinstallment of Machar as the first vice
president and the incumbent (Kiir) as the president throughout the interim
period until the elections. It’s also calling for the separation of armies
for 18 months commanded separately by the two principals.
