*WAU, August 4, 2015 [Gurtong] -* The protesters begun their walk at 8 am
from Wau’s main stadium to the UNMISS main gate where the protestors
peacefully handed over their petition to the UN State coordinator.

The civil society in the State protested the IGAD plus proposal of 53
percent of power-sharing given to the rebels in Greater Upper Nile region,
adaptation of two armies and the demilitarization of the capital City.

While handing over the petition to the UN, the civil society called for
peacefully solutions to the South Sudan’s conflict. “We the community and
civil society in Western Bahr el Ghazal State, who are carrying out the
declaration, expected from the IGAD group to resolve the conflict between
the government of South Sudan and (SPLM-IO) through peaceful Non-violence
approach”.

“Shockingly, we realized that there were some burning issues in the IGAD’s
document which will fuel up the conflict.. At this juncture, we strongly
condemn and reject points, one, the 53 percent in the power sharing
allotted to the opposition in the Greater Upper Nile Region which will
later result to the separation of one country,” said the statement read at
the UN gate in Wau.

The Civil society also rejects the adaptation of two armies and
demilitarization of the capital city saying the move will deprive the
country from her sovereignty and will create mistrust among the two armies
during the transitional period.

“We request the United Nation Mission in Western Bahr el Ghazal State to
send our views on the three points to the negotiation table in Addis Ababa.”

UNMISS State Coordinator Wini Bibahuga confirmed the statement from the
civil society “ I affirm publicly that I have peaceful received your
document and I will peacefully pass it on as you required. The United
Nation Mission in South Sudan stands firm in the quest for peace in this
country and we listen to the people’s aspiration for peace and I believe
this document will contribute to the dialogue on the peace process that is
going on in Addis Ababa.”

Protestors moved to the UN quarters chanting “One president, one army, one
nation and one people.”
