By James Deng Dimo * WAU, 01 July 2016 [Gurtong]* -While addressing the media in Wau, Achor said while in Juba he met with President, Salva Kiir to discuss on the humanitarian situation in the State following the recent violence. “The issue of security, hunger and the issue of treatment which cannot wait for tomorrow or next tomorrow is what we discussed. We have secured 2,000 bags of rice and sheets for those who totally lost their properties. We will distribute to them until the situation is finally settled,” said Acho. Acho said that the President has directed the minister in his office to address the humanitarian situation in Wau with the major issue being transport. He also added that Agriculture banks have contributed 5,000 tons of maize flour which was headed to Rumbek adding that he has requested the national ministry of health to supply the State with medicines as they are facing a shortage of medical drugs. “I also yesterday reached out to Dr. Riak Goi, the head of the investigation committee which is coming to Wau today and told them that I need medicines. Wau does not have medicines and in such a situation if a person is hungry they are prone to many diseases. He said the national minister of health has promised to send emergency doctors to Wau to assist with the deplorable situation. “All the ministers are ready to help us but the problem is transport, if the road was good, the State would have found money to hire vehicles to transport things to Wau but I have talk to many people including general Paul Malong Awan to help us in exporting these things to Wau, ”said Acho. “We want to reduce the high prices of food commodities in the markets, this is what we want to do, and we need those who have no money to get humanitarian assistance,” said Acho. Many civilians in Wau were affected by the recent fighting in Wau leaving them displaced while others have lost their lives.
