*ENTEBBE* – South Sudan’s Salva Kiir has arrived in Uganda this afternoon for a summit on terrorism called up by Uganda’s President, Yoweri Museveni. The summit will be attended by key East African heads of states including President Uhuru Kenyatta, Prime Minister Hailemariam desalegn and Rwandan president Paul Kagame. The mini-summit was called by the Ugandan strongman to honour the arrival of Benjamin Netanyahu who have come to the country today to mark the 40 year anniversary of the 1976 Entebbe hostage raid. On 4 July 1976, Israeli Defence Forces commandos carried out a succesful rescue mission to free their citizens taken hostage at Entebbe International Airport by Palestinian terrorist groups allied to then Uganda President Idi Amin Dada. In the raid, about 100 hostages were freed by the Israeli commandos. Netanyahu however wanted to treat the visit to Uganda as private and a cordial meeting with Museveni, according to media reports in Uganda. But Museveni convinced the Israeli prime minister that the raid should be honoured by inviting guests of heads of states in the region. Netanyahu in the other hand is on a 5 days visit to Africa, the first ever longest visit to the continent by a sitting Israeli Prime Minister. *THE UPPER NILE TIMES* -- To post to this group, send email to [email protected] To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected] Visit this group at https://groups.google.com/d/forum/southsudankob View this message at https://groups.google.com/d/msg/southsudankob/topic-id/message-id For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
